4. Who commanded the armies in the Battle of Chattanooga?

The Union armies were commanded by Major General Ulysses S. Grant. The Confederate Army of Tennessee was commanded by General Braxton Bragg.

5. Are there hiking trails at the battlefield?

Yes. Chickamauga Battlefield has 52 miles of hiking trails. Lookout Mountain has over 30 miles of hiking trails. Trail maps may be obtained online or at the Visitor Centers.

6. Where will we meet for our tours?

We will use the Visitor Center at Chickamauga or Lookout Mountain as our meeting point. All information about your tour will be sent to you by email. You will be able to visit the Visitor Center before your tour.

7. Will the tours go on rain or shine?

Yes.

8. How do we pay for the tour? Do you accept credit cards?

Usually payment is made after the tour is over. I accept cash or check. I am not geared to accept credit cards, so no, I do not accept credit cards.

9. If we had a relative who fought at Chickamauga or Chattanooga and want to see the exact places he fought, how do we make that happen? Or, what if we want to concentrate on one area of the battle?

After you initially contact me, I will email you a TOUR ITINERARY, including the dates and times of your tour, plus other information. Your reply to the Itinerary is your confirmation of the tour, and I will enter your tour on my calendar. When you send me your reply, just note what unit in which your relative fought (or as much as you know) and I will do the rest. Some of the most meaningful and most emotional tours I have ever given are for people who see for the first time the actual ground where their ancestors fought.

10. Are there admission charges to the battlefields?

There is no admission charge for the Chickamauga Battlefield. Point Park on Lookout Mountain charges a $10.00 entry fee per person for those 16 years and older, but there is no charge for a one-car Chickamauga Battlefield Tours individual or group (my pass is good for four people).

11. If we are doing a full-day tour, where and when do we eat lunch?

Typically we will break for lunch about 12:30 pm. You will choose where we go to eat lunch. I will have several options for you, from fast food options to a quick sit down meal at a family owned restaurant. There are plenty of choices.

12. We are staying overnight, but do not know the area. Can you help us with hotel reservations?

Certainly. Just let me know your needs and the area you will be staying and I will send you several recommendations for you to choose from.

13. We have a large group touring the battlefield. Can you recommend a charter bus company?

Yes. Just let me know and I will send you a list of trusted charter companies I have used and can recommend.

14. Is there a book store/gift shop at the Visitor Center?
