Tour guide | ChickamaugaTourGuide
I am Robert Carter, author, historian, and battlefield tour guide. Join me for a never to be forgotten tour of America’s first battlefield park—Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.
The Battle of Chickamauga was the largest battle fought in the Western Theater of the Civil War, and the second largest battle of the entire war. Only the Battle of Gettysburg exceeded Chickamauga in the number of casualties incurred. At over 10,000 acres, and 1,400 monuments, markers, and tablets, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is the largest battlefield park in the country.
The park consists of two separate battlefields. The Chickamauga Battlefield is nestled in northwest Georgia, just 12 miles south of Chattanooga. The Battle of Chattanooga sites which include Orchard Knob, Point Park on Lookout Mountain, and Missionary Ridge, are divided into separate “Reservations” in and around Chattanooga, Tennessee. Other nearby sites that can be visited are Brown’s Ferry, Wauhatchie, Sunset Rock, and the Chattanooga National Cemetery. National Park Service Visitor Centers are located at the Chickamauga Battlefield and at Point Park atop Lookout Mountain.
Tours can be designed for individuals, families, or groups of any size. With over two decades of experience, I can tailor a tour to meet your needs—from a novice just learning about the battle, to the knowledgeable Civil War student. Come see the ground and learn the story of the brave men—both North and South—who fought in this titanic battle. Let Chickamauga Battlefield Tours design a tour for you!
